Sporting Sections

Who’s Who

The Cricket Section is one of the most established sporting sections within the Force and without doubt one of the most successful.

The team play in the National Police Knockout Cup, formerly known as the PAA (Police Athletic Association) now played under the banner of PSUK (Police Sport United Kingdom). Since 1990 the team have reached the national final on seven occasions, being successful no fewer than five times, the most recent victory being in 2004.

It may seem strange, but the season starts in January! Winter Indoor nets are held at The Nottingham Boys High School, Forest Road Nottingham, usually on a Wednesday evening. These usually run until around Easter time.

When the season starts proper, home games are played at the beautiful rural setting at Calverton Cricket Club about 8 miles north of Nottingham itself. Calverton boasts excellent facilities for spectators and players alike and is an enjoyable location to either play or watch a game (pint in hand!)

The National PSUK draw for the 2006 season has just been made and Notts have not had the best of luck. A visit to Staffordshire for the first round is a difficult fixture: Staffs being the runners up last year and winners in the not too distant past. The match will be played around the middle of May (date to be confirmed) probably at Stone Cricket Club.

The Officials of the team at the current time are:

Chairman: Supt Jason Caunt
Treasurer: PC 1002 Chris Marshall
Secretary: PC 770 Derek Pickering
Captain:    Insp. Peter Crawley.
